Matchington Mansion

Creative concept for a match-3 game with 100+ mill downloads

  • Client: Magic tavern, Inc.

  • Game: Matchington Mansion

  • Creative tools used: After Effects, Photoshop, Newton 3

  • My Role: End-to-End Production

  • Art Director: Justin Dong

With 100+ million downloads and 2.35 million reviews, this game was a massive hit, and I was tasked with creating a concept that aligned with a trending mobile game mechanic—fixing broken objects by making matches on a puzzle board. To ensure the idea resonated with audiences, I conducted market research to analyze high-performing creatives in the space.

Using a mix of in-game assets and pre-existing elements, I built a rough cut and got approval from my art director. One of the biggest challenges was handling the complexity of match-3 mechanics while maintaining fluid motion. Additionally, to create realistic coin physics, I quickly learned and implemented Newton 3, a physics plugin for After Effects, to enhance the animation.

This project pushed creative boundaries, blending technical problem-solving with market-driven design to deliver an engaging and visually compelling ad.
